Full Steam Marketing & Design today announced the successful completion of the visual and physical execution of the newest addition to the California Welcome Center network. The 1,500 square foot California Welcome Center Salinas, located in the Westridge shopping mall, features vivid area photography, breathtaking video footage presented on subtly framed digital signage, and a diverse array of artifacts and collector’s items capturing each “corner” of the Central Coast area.

Secured by the Salinas Valley Tourism and Visitors Bureau in February 2011, the designation of Salinas as the new California Welcome Center representing Monterey County and the Central Coast meant an opportunity to create a visual brand and identity for Salinas and its neighboring regions.

From its long association with many tri-county area businesses, Full Steam had a strong appreciation for the rich natural, agricultural and cultural attributes of the Monterey Bay region. This made the task of bringing to life the vision of what the Welcome Center should convey an intuitive and particularly enjoyable experience.

“As a new Salinas Valley resident in 1998, it quickly became apparent to me that this was an area of significant beauty and diversity,” said Craig Kaufman, Principal, Full Steam Marketing & Design. “The face we have given the Welcome Center was inspired by the wealth of talent, cultural legacy and natural resources we have right here on our doorstep.”

Full Steam’s design for the center is based on a virtual tour of the region, where wall panels around the perimeter of the room represent the points on an area map. A variety of exhibit areas around the center then zoom in and highlight particular attractions using multi-faceted digital signage, video footage, easily accessible literature and intriguing items that collectively capture the essence of the region.
